about me
Together with my husband Greg Kemp, we founded Project Somos Learning Village Guatemala. In 2011, we packed up our personal belongings and moved from Vancouver, BC to a small agricultural community in the Central Highlands of Guatemala. Working with our team, we transformed a bare piece of land into a vibrant learning village, using sustainable technology and building techniques to construct fourteen buildings and establish an organic farm which feeds the children and staff. At Somos, children come to learn, play and eat healthy food. We've welcomed over six hundred volunteers from around the world to participate in meaningful service experiences. It was here that I began my online photography courses and put my learning into action by documenting our work at the Project.
As a photographer, I focus on capturing honest moments of connection. I specialize in Day in the Life sessions of multi-generational families. My work with non-profit organizations focuses on documenting the important work being done by the charity and their team. These stories have been powerful tools for fundraising and awareness building over the years.
As a Guided Autobiography Instructor and Digital Storytelling Facilitator, I cherish being a witness to people's inspiring lives. I believe people's lives and stories matter and everyone deserves to be seen and heard. I feel honored to be a part of their storytelling journey.
Recent loss has transformed my understanding of photography. I've become acutely aware of our finite time—and the profound importance of cherishing our connections. Photographs are more than images. They are memories preserved, stories captured, love immortalized. Each frame is a testament to the precious moments we share, a bridge between what was and what will be remembered. With every photograph I make, I seek to honor the depth of human and animal relationships, capturing the genuine, unscripted moments that truly define our experience.
My husband and our three brown rescue dogs and I may be found living in a small town in Mexico, back at the Project in Guatemala, or spending time with family and friends in Canada or the USA. I love cooking and sharing meals with those I love! I volunteer teaching photography to Mexican youth and recently have been having fun learning pottery!
